Okay, so ages ago my friends and I worked on a machinima using Guild Wars.  We’ve recorded dialogue for about six episodes, so more will follow.  Eventually.

Created from a suggestion by a friend of mine.

Finally uploaded the video I created for this year’s film festival.  I managed to win in my category.  Not bad for 8 minutes of animating, but it could use some work.  The last half of the video was a bit slap-dash because I was also studying for my CQIA certification.  At least I passed that test.  Most importantly, thanks to Brian for his help with the music for the song, as well as singing a bit for Chauncy.

Every year at my job the powers that be hold a short film festival. Just about anything is allowed, as long as it involves work. This year, I decided to enter, and wrote a parody of Animaniacs called “Nelsonmaniacs.” (Nelson being the name of the head of the company) So here’s the trailer for it.

Fourthmas

So at work we’ve been rather distressed for this month.

We have no holidays to celebrate. Last month had both St. Patricks Day AND Easter, leaving this month a void for festivities and excuses to eat cake. After discussing the problem with a few colleagues, we decided to create our own holiday. Since April is the fourth month of the year, we’d call it “Fourthmas.” After looking into it, I found that no one knows for certain how April came to be named. There’s a couple similar Latin words that may have inspired it. According to old tales, The Brothers Grimm joked that April was actually named after a long-forgotton Roman god or hero named Aprus. Taking that, I mixed in Pandora’s box, and a plan by Hades to take over the world. The following is the poem I wrote that details the whole thing, followed by sketches of Aprus and Hades.
I am also proud to say that our office is now decked out in weird hats and pictures of cake. (That’ll make sense later.) And for those interested, I believe that Fourthmas will be celebrated on the 18th.

Fourthmas: The Story

Introduction

April is here, month number four
But why it is named so is not know for sure
It has been Grimmly suggested to all of us
That it was named for the heroine Aprus
Aprus, you see lived in Rome of olde
Rather polite, yet brave and bold
She saved the world, I do not jest
When she fought Hades over a musical chest.

The Boxes
The Pythinski brothers, carpenters great
Had a shop at thirty-ninth and State
They made music boxes of such renown
And were wanted by all in old Rome town
A woman named Pandora, a heart just like ice
Wanted a music box, but she was not nice
A plan for revenge came from the brother’s mill
And Pandora got a box made of wood most evil
Another friend wanted a box of theirs
Pessimus, he was the type that always cares
To say thanks the brothers made him a present
A music box made of wood ever so pleasant
Business was booming and life was good
But soon the brothers had only scraps of wood
So when Aprus asked for a box of her own
A box of both good and bad wood scraps was sewn
Now, dear reader, please do not despair
Aprus is not in peril, and we’re glad that you care
Because the box was made from the good and the bad
Both cancelled out, so the box was just… mad
It couldn’t spawn puppies or flowers or cats
It couldn’t spawn monsters or plagues or bats
It could, on occasion, produce a small rake
And if you were lucky, a nice chocolate cake

Hades’ Plan
Hades soon learned of Pandora’s Box
And planned to use it to unleash a pox
And in the chaos conquer with his armies of dead
But due to a mistake, found Aprus instead.
When ambushed by Hades, she kept her cool
And quickly made Hades look like a fool
Hades asked who she was, she responded with lies
And each time the box gave her the perfect disguise
For Hades was interested in box and in name
He never quite noticed that these girls all looked the same
He continued running in to Aprus, day after day
Asked who she was, she always had something new to say
She claimed to be a toymaker, showing a rubber duck
With a bow and arrow she claimed to be hunting a buck
With a pirate hat she said to be from the high seas
With a saw she was a carpenter out cutting down trees
Hades plans, once delightful, now seemed quite grim
For there had to be far more boxes than first known to him
After interrogating dozens of girls from Rome
He finally said, “Forget it!” and headed back home

Epilogue
Aprus’ box brought her joy for the rest of her life
Pandora’s box (to the brother’s glee) caused her
nothing but strife
And Pessimus’ box of good, on a shelf it sat
Because a life that good…
well, he didn’t think he could handle that
